Some features about appearance and role of Vietnamese nouns (in To Hoai’s works)

Abstract

The paper surveys the Vietnamese nouns (found in To Hoai’s works) to explain theh role and clarify the appearance of constituent parts of this part of speech. The research results show that the nouns play the most important role in Vietnamese vocabulary, they are basic part of speech with strong growth, which are proved by  both number of nouns and their frequency of use in the works. In terms of the appearance of constituent parts, the nouns are formed by 6 subtypes (distinguished from each other by meanings and grammatical features), with the differences in the number and frequency of use. The nouns have a higher rate of compounds than the general rate of Vietnamese words, several sub-types mostly consist of single nouns, while some only contain compound nouns.
