Abstract

This study aims to describe the lexical profile of Vietnamese linguistics research articles using a corpus-based approach. The corpus consists of 100 research articles selected from Vietnamese linguistics journals, with the objective of identifying lexical items that occur with high frequency and wide dispersion across the texts. The study adopts a quantitative methodology based on frequency and dispersion measures to determine lexical items that are representative of the target register. The findings indicate that the lexical profile of Vietnamese linguistics research articles is characterized by the predominance of abstract, metalinguistic nouns, verbs associated with cognitive processes and academic presentation, as well as the consistent use of illustrative discourse markers. Methodologically, the study demonstrates that corpus-based and quantitative approaches can be effectively applied to the investigation of Vietnamese academic vocabulary, contributing to greater transparency, consistency, and replicability in linguistic research within the Vietnamese context.
