Theoretical and Practical Foundations for Compiling a Tourism Encyclopedia of Dien Bien province

Abstract

This article analyzes the theoretical and practical foundations for compiling aTourism Encyclopedia of Điện Biên Province. From a theoretical perspective, it clarifies the concepts of the encyclopedia and the tourism encyclopedia as forms of organizing scientific knowledge characterized by systematic structure, standardization, and interdisciplinarity. From a practical perspective, it examines the role of tourism in economic development in relation to national and local orientations on tourism development, together with the tourism potential, current situation, and development outcomes of Điện Biên Province. On that basis, the article identifies existing gaps in the systematization of local tourism knowledge and affirms the necessity of compiling the Điện Biên Provincial Tourism Encyclopedia to serve research, management, and the sustainable development of tourism.
