Characteristics of Chinese Commercial Contract Terminology and Its Translation into Vietnamese

Abstract

Commercial contracts are highly normative legal documents in which terminology plays a crucial role in ensuring accuracy and legal validity. Based on a concept-oriented terminological approach combined with Chinese-Vietnamese contrastive analysis, this study examines 15 contracts in the fields of goods trading, processing, and service provision. A total of 56 terminological units were extracted and classified into six conceptual categories. The results show that most terms are concentrated in the category of rights, obligations, and legal responsibilities. Regarding translation equivalence, 65% of the terms achieve full equivalence, while the remaining cases fall into partial equivalence or functional legal equivalence. Based on these findings, the study proposes several translation strategies to improve the quality of Chinese-Vietnamese translation in the field of commercial contracts.
