Some aspects of dialect dictionaries and the compilation of dialect dictionaries in Vietnam

Abstract

In order to develop a theoretical basis and method of compiling dialect dictionaries, on the basis of studying a number of theoretical documents on dialect dictionaries as well as surveying a number of typical dialect dictionaries in the world and in Vietnam, the paper clarifies the importance of the compilation of dialect dictionaries in general and the compilation of dialect dictionaries in Vietnam in particular. Besides, the paper also suggests an orientation for compiling a dialect dictionary that covers the whole country in the future with the support of digital technology.
