Characteristics of national culture through some symbolic meanings of the marriage vocabulary field in Vietnamese

Abstract

Currently, the trend of studying language in relation to culture and thinking is growing strongly in the world as well as in Vietnam. In particular, the study of  symbolic meaning has becomes a fairly common phenomenon in cultures and the spiritual life of a community. In marriage customs, getting married is a matter of happiness and good luck. Depending on each nation's customs, traditions, religious beliefs and culture, the act of marriage can have similar or different cultural characteristics. Within the scope of this article, we survey the words of the marriage vocabulary domain in Vietnamese, aiming to point out national cultural characteristics through illuminating some symbolic meanings of the marriage vocabulary field.
