Abstract

This paper investigates and describes the variation within the half-open rhyme system of the Quang Ngai dialect, which is characterized by numerous distinctive phonetic and phonemic shifts. The research methodology integrates phonetic-phonological analysis and description with linguistic mapping toolsArcGIS 10.8 was applied to visualize data and construct variant distribution maps, thereby facilitating the identification of isoglosses and sub-dialect boundaries. The findings indicate that the half-open rhyme system in the Quang Ngai dialect exhibits diverse variations across different sub-dialects, with particularly pronounced shifts observed in the southern sub-dialect group. This study not only contributes supplementary empirical data to the documentation of the Quang Ngai dialect but also affirms the efficacy of GIS technology in dialectal and sub-dialectal mapping.
