APPLICATION OF ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE IN ASSESSING STUDENTS’ LINGUISTIC THINKING COMPETENCE THROUGH ESSAY-BASED ASSIGNMENTS

Abstract

In the context of the increasing application of artificial intelligence (AI) in education, the use of artificial intelligence in essay assessment opens up new approaches to educational evaluation. This study aims to propose a framework for assessing students’ linguistic thinking competence and to examine the applicability of AI in evaluating its components through essay writing tasks, drawing on selected courses at Hanoi University. The paper focuses on clarifying the theoretical foundations of linguistic thinking competence assessment and analyzing the role of essay-based tasks in evaluating this competence. It also presents the theoretical basis for  AI-assisted essay scoring and reports an experimental implementation involving task development, rubric design, and prompt construction for - AI-assisted assessment.
