Abstract

Comparative linguistic expressions are expressions that manifest the results of comparison thinking. In reality, using comparative linguistic expressions not only indicates similarities/differences and/or superior/inferior comparisons but also directs listeners to certain targets beyond the said things. Some targets of comparative linguistic expressions can be reproduction, expression, control…of linguistic actions. Comparative linguistic expressions are mainly used to describe people’s appearance. The use of comparative linguistic expressions towards describing people is also considered a basis of our understanding of an entity that needs to be described accurately.
